离 — near to, far from, and time until

Is your home far from school?
- A new classmate asks where you live. You want to say your home is close to the school.
- my home我家from离school学校很近。 — "My home is very close to the school."
A + from离 + B + near近/far远
- from离 compares the distance between two places: A from离 B 很近, A is close to B; A from离 B degree / adjective linker很far远, A is far from B.
- The first place is the topic, and the second is the reference point: hospital医院from离here这儿not不far远, the hospital is not far from here.

离 links the two places when you describe their distance.
How far is it?
- Ask ……from离……far远(yes/no ?)吗？ — 你家from离school学校far远(yes/no ?)吗？, Is your home far from school?
- Give a distance with is有: my home我家from离school学校is有two两kilometres公里。 — "My home is two kilometres from the school."

Place + 离 + reference place + 远吗 asks about distance.
from离 with time
- from离 also measures time to an event: from离to take an exam考试furthermore还有三天。 — "There are three days left until the exam."
- The event comes after from离, and the remaining time follows furthermore还有.
离考试还有三天 means “There are three days left until the exam.”

Watch out
- from离 gives a distance, not a starting point. For a route, use from从……to / arrive到……: from从my home我家to / arrive到school学校want / will / need要十分钟.
- Do not put to be / is是 before the adjective: my home我家from离school学校很近, not my home我家from离school学校to be / is是near近.

A route or journey uses 从……到……. 离 describes distance between two places, not a starting point.
