Opinions, plans and suggestions
-
This HSK 4 teaching lesson practises opinions, reasons, plans and suggestions. These local speaking activities are not an exam-format specification or level certificate.
-
Same method: hear → say → record → compare. Nothing is scored; the recording stays on this page.
-
Before you start: Recall supported opinions and connected story turns. Separate a judgement, supporting reason, future intention and an actual completed event.
The speaker says 我打算明年去北京学习汉语。What can you safely report?
Difficulty 1/5 · 100 coins + a small bonus on first completion today
打算 states an intention or plan, not completion or a guarantee. Retain 明年 as next year rather than moving it into the past.
Opinions with to feel / think觉得
- I / me我to feel / think觉得 + opinion: I / me我to feel / think觉得Beijing, capital of the…北京(modifier / structural particle)的autumn秋天最美。
- to feel / think觉得 commonly introduces a personal impression or judgement. to think / believe认为 often introduces a considered view; context matters, so neither word mechanically determines how firm an opinion sounds.
- Practice box 1: record the opinion.
Hear the model, then record the opinion.
觉得 + judgement. 北京的秋天 — the 的 links the place to its season.
The want / think / miss想 / to feel / think觉得 split
- want / think / miss想 is wanting or intending: I / me我want / think / miss想to go去Beijing, capital of the…北京。 to feel / think觉得 is judging: I / me我to feel / think觉得Beijing, capital of the…北京degree / adjective linker很beautiful美。
- want / think / miss想 can also mean think, so do not label every want / think / miss想 + clause as wrong. For the personal impression practised here, use I / me我to feel / think觉得Beijing, capital of the…北京degree / adjective linker很beautiful美; compare it with the wish I / me我want / think / miss想to go去Beijing, capital of the…北京.
- Ask yourself: is it a wish (want / think / miss想) or an opinion (to feel / think觉得)? Practice box 2 uses to feel / think觉得 with a reason.
Work through a decision: For a recommendation, name your judgement, connect a relevant reason and limit the plan to what the facts support. want / think / miss想to go去 can express a wish; to plan打算 introduces a plan. Neither says the action is already completed. An invitation should also fit the other person’s availability, not just your own preference.
Compare a near miss: A reason about price may support a choice between two activities; it does not establish that one is better in every way. Adding I / me我to feel / think觉得 cannot turn an unsupported universal claim into evidence.
Opinion plus 因为 reason. Record both halves.
Opinion, then because: the smallest supported argument in Chinese.
Two activities: the park is free; a film costs money. You want to save money today. Which reason best supports choosing the park?
Difficulty 1/5 · 100 coins + a small bonus on first completion today
The first reason connects the available price distinction to today’s goal. The second overgeneralises to everyone; the third confuses intention with completion.
Plans with to plan打算
- to plan打算 + verb: I / me我to plan打算next year明年to go去Beijing, capital of the…北京to learn学习Chinese language汉语。
- to plan打算 introduces an intention or plan; it does not guarantee commitment or completion. In this sentence next year明年 precedes to go去; time phrases need not come before every other word.
- Practice box 3: record the plan.
State the plan with 打算. Record it.
打算 introduces intention or planning; 想 can express a wish or thought. Their force depends on context rather than a fixed commitment scale.
Suggestions with want / will / need要not不
- want / will / need要not不 + suggestion: want / will / need要not不we / us我们to go去吃火锅(suggestion)吧! — how about hotpot?
- The delighted answer: good好plan主意! — good idea!
- Practice box 4: record the suggestion and the answer.
Suggest and answer. Record both sides.
要不 = "how about". 好主意 is the happy yes.
Experiences with (experienced)过
- Verb + (experienced)过 marks life experience: I / me我去过Shanghai municipality…上海两次。
- (experienced)过 highlights prior experience. Verb-suffix (completed / change)了 presents an event as a whole; sentence-final (completed / change)了 has other functions. Neither is a simple English past-tense ending.
- I / me我to go去(experienced)过Shanghai municipality…上海两次 foregrounds having had that experience. I / me我to go去(completed / change)了Shanghai municipality…上海两次 can be grammatical when reporting two visits in a relevant period. Choose the viewpoint that fits the context rather than treating the second sentence as universally wrong.
- Practice box 5: record the experience sentence.
A life experience with 过. Record the sentence.
我去过上海两次 foregrounds prior experience. 我去了上海两次 can also be grammatical when reporting visits in context. Do not infer that 过 and every use of 了 are mutually exclusive.
Your turn: opinion, plan, invitation
- Say one opinion (to feel / think觉得), support it with because因为, add one plan (to plan打算), and finish with one invitation (want / will / need要not不).
- Practice box 6 gives a model — make it yours when you record.
- Record twice: once reading, once from memory. Notice how the four parts flow.
YOUR opinion, plan and invitation — record twice.
This is a local opinion/plan/invitation task. Check meaning and the fit between the three moves; it is not a certified HSK spoken assessment.
New decision card: 公园免费,电影院要买票。今天我想省钱,明天有考试。Give a Mandarin opinion about a suitable short activity today, explain it using the card and propose a plan that leaves time to prepare for tomorrow. You may make a reasonable proposal, but label it as your plan rather than a fact already in the card. Speak in Mandarin. Use brief notes rather than reading a prepared answer.
Written comparison supports your own replay and revision. No automatic correctness, pronunciation score or exam-level judgement is provided.
Keep the voice working
- Tomorrow, before you reopen this page: one opinion, one plan, one suggestion — aloud, no looking.
- Separate Chinese practice has its own task instructions; repeating an answer does not establish independent understanding.
- Next speaking lesson: discussions, explanations and presentations.
Later recall: Tomorrow, give a new opinion with a reason and one limit, then turn it into an invitation. A few days later, change the other person’s availability and revise only what the new information changes. Revisit the plan step after a status error.
Changed invitation card: 朋友今天要工作,明天有空。你明天也有空。Invite the friend to an activity in Mandarin, make the day clear and explain why today does not fit. Then change the friend’s available day to 后天 and record a revised invitation; do not assume your own availability also changed. Speak in Mandarin. Use brief notes rather than reading a prepared answer.
