B1 listening follows three currents: the story, the directions, and the opinion. A story is a chain with named links: first, then, suddenly, in the end. Directions are a walk you replay as a picture: turning words, landmarks, positions.
And opinions wear badges, I think, to be honest, I doubt, that announce how hard the claim will bite. Catch the signposts, not every word.
The signposts carry the structure, and the structure carries the meaning.
A B1 story is a chain with named links. Last month, one evening: the story opens. Then, after that: the next link. Suddenly: a turn, often trouble, and the voice slows around it. Luckily or unfortunately: the speaker weighs the turn. In the end: the last link. Listen with four fingers, who, where, what happened, how it ended, and write down numbers the moment you hear them, because they stay in the head for only seconds.
B1 故事是有名字环扣的链条:last month 开场,then 下一环,suddenly 转折,luckily 评判,in the end 收尾。
Directions arrive as a walk, so replay them as a picture. Turning words come first: go straight on, take the second left. Landmarks come second: go past the school, until you reach the bridge.
Positions come last, and the final sentence usually names the destination and its neighbour: the pharmacy is opposite the post office.
Numbers decide everything: the second left is not the first, and two hundred metres is not two kilometres.
B1 speakers announce opinions before they make them. I think, I feel: a normal opinion. In my opinion, to be honest: a stronger one. I doubt that, I am not sure that: polite disagreement. And everybody knows: an opinion dressed as a fact, so listen carefully to what follows. After the badge comes the reason, with because or so, and often a second voice with but or on the other hand. And when you hear I see your point, but, that is a disagreement wearing a coat.
B1 说话人先亮胸章再出主张:I think 普通;to be honest 加强;I doubt 委婉反对;everybody knows 是披着事实外衣的观点。 胸章后是 because/so 带的理由,常有 but 转折。 I see your point, but 是穿外套的反对。
Watch out for three traps. Do not chase every word: the signposts carry the structure, and the structure carries the meaning. Notice when stressed words slow down: the speaker is pointing at the important news. And numbers live in the head for only seconds: write them the moment you hear them. The pen is part of the ear.
Check yourself. Name the four fingers of story listening.
Turn this into a picture: go straight, take the second left, go past the school, it is opposite the bank. Compare the badge strength of I doubt that and everybody knows.
And decide whether I see your point, but is agreement or disagreement.
I see your point, but 是同意还是反对?
If the signposts sort themselves, the three currents are crossable.
