Listening at A1 is not about speed. It is about catching the parts that matter.
A1 的听力不比速度，比的是抓住关键。
In a first meeting you only need three things: the name, the number, and who is who.
第一次见面只需要三样：名字、数字、谁是谁。
Train your ear on exactly those, and let the rest flow past.

When you miss a name, English speakers spell it.
没听清名字就请对方拼出来。
Many letters share one sound: the e letters F, L, M, N, S, X and Z, said zed; the ee letters B, C, D, E, G, P, T and V.
很多字母共享同一个音：e 组和 ee 组。
The fix is one question: Can you spell that, please? Say it early, say it often, and one letter at a time the name appears.
一句 Can you spell that, please? 一个一个字母抓，名字就出来了。
Numbers hide inside phone numbers, ages and room numbers.
数字藏在电话、年龄和房间号里。
Phone numbers come in strings: say oh for zero and double for a repeated digit. Five, oh, seven, eight, double six, oh, nine.

Ages are single numbers, and room numbers travel as a pair: Room 4B.

First meetings follow a frame: greeting, name, number, close.

The frame repeats, so your ears can rest between the key parts.

Practise the three number shapes. The meeting is in Room 302: a room number. His number is 8 double 2, 401: a phone string. She is 15, her brother is 19: single ages. Write as you hear, and the shapes separate themselves.

Take a first try with a partner, reading aloud. My name is Lin, L-I-N. Her name is Beth, B-E-T-H. And when the name is new, the tool is one question: Can you spell that, please? Yes: X-I-A-O.

Say the three exchanges aloud. What is your name? Xiao, X-I-A-O. Your number? 5 double 7, 0-9-2. Nice to meet you, Xiao. Nice to meet you too. Spoken aloud three times, the frame becomes yours.

Watch out for the traps. Thirteen ends with a long, loud teen; thirty ends with a short ty.
注意陷阱：thirteen 结尾的 teen 又长又响，thirty 结尾的 ty 短。
Names stress one syllable, so catch the loud part.

And do not translate while listening: catch first, understand later.
