The free-response section is four questions, and every year they are the same four shapes.
Question one asks you to write a method from a description — that is lessons three, four and five.
Question two asks for a whole class from a specification, which is lessons six and seven.
Question three works on an array or an ArrayList, lessons eight to eleven.
And question four works on a grid, which is lesson twelve.
Whichever type it is, start the same way: read the method signature before you write a line.
It returns an int, so you must return a number.
It takes an array, so you will traverse it.
It takes a limit, so there is an if inside that loop.
And check whether it is static, because writing the wrong header costs a mark before you have done anything.
And the most useful thing to know about this paper: marks are given part by part, and each piece earns its own.
A correct header.
A loop over the array.
The right condition inside it.
Returning the counter.
A method that is half right still scores, and a blank one never does.
So write something for every part, even when you cannot finish it.
Four things to close the course.
One: the four FRQ types are the same every year.
Two: read the method signature before you write.
Three: marks are given part by part, so never leave a blank.
Four: name the type, and you know which lesson to revise.
That is all nineteen lessons — well done, and good luck.
