    形容词 + 得不得了 — "extremamente, … até a morte"

    English

得不得了 after an adjective cranks it to the extreme — "incredibly …, … to death." On its own 不得了 means "[oh no,] terrible!", but as a complement it just intensifies, good or bad.

    Structure: Adjective + 得不得了

today今天jīn tiāncold冷lěngterribly得不得了de bù dé liǎohow,怎么zěn mecan会huìso这么zhè mecold冷lěng?

It's terribly cold today — how can it be this cold?

the promotion升职shēng zhímade让rànghim他tāhappy高兴gāo xìngextremely得不得了de bù dé liǎo。

Getting promoted made him over the moon.

Remember: 得不得了 = "…like crazy." It swings both ways — 高兴得不得了 (over the moon) and 累得不得了 (dead on my feet) — and hits harder than 很 or 非常.

    Watch out

    • It needs the 得: 高兴得不得了, not 高兴不得了.
    Português

得不得了 após um adjetivo aumenta ao extremo — "incrivelmente …, … até a morte." Sozinho, 不得了 significa "[oh não,] terrível!", mas como complemento, apenas intensifica, seja bom ou mau.

    Estrutura: Adjective + 得不得了

today今天jīn tiāncold冷lěngterribly得不得了de bù dé liǎohow,怎么zěn mecan会huìso这么zhè mecold冷lěng?

Está um frio terrível hoje — como pode estar tão frio?

the promotion升职shēng zhímade让rànghim他tāhappy高兴gāo xìngextremely得不得了de bù dé liǎo。

    A promoção deixou-o sobre nuvens.

Lembre-se: 得不得了 = "… tipo maluco." Ele funciona em ambos os sentidos — 高兴得不得了 (sobre nuvens) e 累得不得了 (morto de cansaço) — e tem mais força que 很 ou 非常.

    Cuidado

    • Precisa do 得: 高兴得不得了, não 高兴不得了.
    1.2

形容词 + 得很 — "muito, mesmo"

    English

得很 after an adjective is a casual, emphatic "very, really" — a relaxed alternative to fronting 很, and a touch stronger.

    Structure: Adjective + 得很

this这个zhè geplace地方dì fanggorgeous漂亮piào liangreally得很de hěnrecommend,推荐tuī jiànyou你nǐgo去qù。

This place is gorgeous — I really recommend you visit.

    don't别biéworry担心dān xīnthis,这次zhè cìexam考试kǎo shìeasy简单jiǎn dānreally得很de hěn。

Don't worry — this exam is dead easy.

Remember: the intensifier TRAILS the adjective: 好得很 (not 很好得很). It's a casual, slightly stronger swap for a front 很 — "好得很" lands like "really good, honestly."

    Watch out

    • Don't double up — pick a front 很 or a trailing 得很, never both.
    Português

得很 após um adjetivo é um "muito, mesmo" informal e enfático — uma alternativa relaxada a colocar 很 na frente, e um pouco mais forte.

    Estrutura: Adjective + 得很

this这个zhè geplace地方dì fanggorgeous漂亮piào liangreally得很de hěnrecommend,推荐tuī jiànyou你nǐgo去qù。

Este lugar é deslumbrante — realmente recomendo que visite.

    don't别biéworry担心dān xīnthis,这次zhè cìexam考试kǎo shìeasy简单jiǎn dānreally得很de hěn。

Não se preocupe — este exame é muito fácil.

Lembre-se: o intensificador VAIO após o adjetivo: 好得很 (não 很好得很). É uma troca informal, ligeiramente mais forte que um 很 à frente — "好得很" soa como "realmente bom, pra valer."

    Cuidado

    • Não dobre: escolha um 很 à frente ou um 得很 atrás, nunca ambos.
    1.3

    形容词 + 了 + (一)点儿 — "um pouquinho demais …"

    English

Tag 了(一)点儿 onto an adjective to say something is a touch too much — "a bit too …." It's softer than 太, so it's the polite way to grumble.

    Structure: Adjective + 了 + (一)点儿

this这件zhè jiànshirt衬衫chèn shānsmall小xiǎo了lea bit too点儿diǎnrI,我wǒwant想xiǎngto swap换huànit一件yí jiàn。

This shirt's a bit too small — I'd like to swap it.

that那个nà geplace地方dì fangfrom离límy home我家wǒ jiāfar远yuǎn了lea bit too一点儿yì diǎnr。

That place is a little too far from my home.

Remember: Adj + 了点儿 = "a bit TOO …" — a gentle complaint, softer than 太. Don't confuse it with 有点儿 + Adj ("a bit …," 有点儿大), which sits before the adjective.

    Watch out

    • Position flips the feel: 有点儿大 ("a bit big," before) vs 大了点儿 ("a bit too big," after).
    Português

Adicione 了(一)点儿 a um adjetivo para dizer que algo está um pouquinho demais — "um pouquinho demais ...." É mais suave que 太, então é a forma educada de reclamar.

    Estrutura: Adjective + 了 + (一)点儿

this这件zhè jiànshirt衬衫chèn shānsmall小xiǎo了lea bit too点儿diǎnrI,我wǒwant想xiǎngto swap换huànit一件yí jiàn。

Esta camisa está um pouquinho pequena demais — gostaria de trocar.

that那个nà geplace地方dì fangfrom离límy home我家wǒ jiāfar远yuǎn了lea bit too一点儿yì diǎnr。

Aquele lugar está um pouquinho longe demais da minha casa.

Lembre-se: Adj + 了点儿 = "um pouquinho DEMAIS …" — uma reclamação suave, mais leve que 太. Não confunda com 有点儿 + Adj ("um pouquinho …", 有点儿大), que fica antes do adjetivo.

    Cuidado

    • A posição inverte a sensação: 有点儿大 ("um pouquinho grande," antes) vs 大了点儿 ("um pouquinho grande demais," depois).
    1.4

有的是 + 名词 — "ter muito de"

    English

有的是 means there's no shortage of something — "have plenty of, have all the … you need." It's emphatic, sometimes a touch boastful. Note: it's one fixed phrase, not 有的 ("some") + 是.

Structure: Subject + 有的是 + Noun

don't别biérush急jíwe,我们wǒ menhave plenty of有的是yǒu de shìtime时间shí jiān。

Don't rush — we've all the time in the world.

his他tādad爸bàis是shìa big boss大老板dà lǎo bǎnhas plenty of,有的是yǒu de shìmoney钱qián。

His dad's a big boss — he's got money to burn.

Remember: 有的是 = "got loads of" — confident, even boastful, far stronger than 有很多. It's a single fixed phrase — don't read it as 有的 ("some") + 是.

    Watch out

    • It takes a bare noun: 有的是时间 / 钱 / 人 — no measure word needed.
    Português

有的是 significa que há sem falta de algo — "ter muito de, ter tudo o … que você precisa." É enfático, às vezes um pouco vaidoso. Nota: é uma expressão fixa, não 有的 ("alguns") + 是.

Estrutura: Subject + 有的是 + Noun

don't别biérush急jíwe,我们wǒ menhave plenty of有的是yǒu de shìtime时间shí jiān。

Não se apresse — temos todo o tempo do mundo.

his他tādad爸bàis是shìa big boss大老板dà lǎo bǎnhas plenty of,有的是yǒu de shìmoney钱qián。

O pai dele é um grande chefe — ele tem dinheiro para jogar fora.

Lembre-se: 有的是 = "tem montes de" — confiante, até vaidoso, muito mais forte que 有很多. É uma expressão fixa única — não leia como 有的 ("alguns") + 是.

    Cuidado

    • Exige um substantivo simples: 有的是时间 / 钱 / 人 — nenhuma palavra de medida necessária.

    2.1

    都 (avançado) — "até / já / agora que"

    English

Beyond "all," 都 moonlights in three ways: "even (to the point that)" (= 甚至); "already" (with a time, plus 了); and a tone of complaint ("now that … !").

    Structure: Subject + 都 + Predicate

    he他tāupset难过nán guò得deeven都dōucried哭kū了le。

He was so upset he even cried.

    already都dōumidnight半夜bàn yè了leyou,你nǐhow come怎么zěn mestill还háinot不bùasleep睡shuì?

It's the middle of the night already — why aren't you asleep?

Remember: three side-jobs for 都: "even" (= 甚至: 难过得都哭了), "already" (time + 了: 都半夜了), and a grumble ("now that…!", 都怪你 "it's all your fault").

    Watch out

    • The "already" sense needs a time phrase and a closing 了 — 都十点了.
    Português

Além de "todos", 都 exerce três funções extras: "até (até o ponto de)" (= 甚至); "já" (com um tempo, mais 了); e um tom de reprovação ("agora que … !").

    Estrutura: Subject + 都 + Predicate

    he他tāupset难过nán guò得deeven都dōucried哭kū了le。

Ele estava tão abalado que até chorou.

    already都dōumidnight半夜bàn yè了leyou,你nǐhow come怎么zěn mestill还háinot不bùasleep睡shuì?

Já é meia-noite — por que não está dormindo?

Lembre-se: três funções secundárias para 都: "até" (= 甚至: 难过得都哭了), "já" (tempo + 了: 都半夜了) e uma reclamação ("agora que…!", 都怪你 "é toda a sua culpa").

    Cuidado

    • O sentido de "já" precisa de uma frase temporal e um 了 final — 都十点了.
    2.2

    还 … 呢 (avançado) — sarcasmo e reprovação

    English

还 + predicate + 呢 drips with surprise, sarcasm, or reproach — "some … you are!, and you call yourself …!" It flags the gap between claim and reality.

    Structure: Subject + 还 + Predicate / Noun + 呢

    some还hái"good friend"好朋友hǎo péng you呢neevery day,天天tiān tiāntalks说shuōmy我wǒbehind my back坏话huài huà。

Some "good friend" — bad-mouthing me every day.

and he还háistudied abroad留过学liú guo xué呢nehis English,英语Yīng yǔthis这么zhè mebad差chà!

He even studied abroad, yet his English is this bad!

Remember: 还 X 呢 = "call yourself an X?!" — a sarcastic jab at the mismatch between the label and the reality. Almost always sealed with 呢, said with an eye-roll.

    Watch out

    • Tone is everything — without the mocking delivery it just reads as plain 还 ("still").
    Português

    还 + predicado + 呢 transborda surpresa, sarcasmo ou reprovação — "que 'amigo' você é!, e diz que é …!" Sinaliza a lacuna entre a afirmação e a realidade.

    Estrutura: Subject + 还 + Predicate / Noun + 呢

    some还hái"good friend"好朋友hǎo péng you呢neevery day,天天tiān tiāntalks说shuōmy我wǒbehind my back坏话huài huà。

Que 'amigo bom' — falando mal de mim todos os dias.

and he还háistudied abroad留过学liú guo xué呢nehis English,英语Yīng yǔthis这么zhè mebad差chà!

Ele chegou a estudar no exterior, e ainda assim o inglês dele é péssimo!

Lembre-se: 还 X 呢 = "você diz ser um X?!" — um soco sarcástico ao desacordo entre o rótulo e a realidade. Quase sempre selado com 呢, dito com rolagem de olhos.

    Cuidado

    • O tom é tudo — sem a entonação zombeteira, lê-se apenas como 还 comum ("ainda/ainda está").
    2.3

总 (avançado) — "certamente, no fim"

    English

Beyond "always," 总 paired with 会 / 得 / 要 / 能 states something concrete and inevitable — "is bound to, will (in the end), has to." It can't sit directly after the verb.

    Structure: 总 + 会 / 得 / 要 / 能 + Verb Phrase (+ 的 / 吧)

here这里zhè lǐis是shìhis他tāhome家jiāhe,他tāis bound to总zǒng会huìcome back回来huí lái的de。

This is his home — he's bound to come back.

we咱们zán menhave got to总zǒng得děithink of想xiǎng个gesome plan办法bàn fǎ吧ba。

We've got to come up with some kind of solution.

Remember: 总 + 会/得/要/能 = "bound to / has got to." 总会回来的 ("bound to come back"), 总得想办法 ("have got to find a way") — a settled sense of inevitability.

    Watch out

    • Pair it with an auxiliary — 总 can't sit bare right before a main verb here.
    Português

Além de "sempre", 总 combinado com 会 / 得 / 要 / 能 afirma algo concreto e inevitável — "certamente, vai (no fim), tem que." Não pode ficar logo após o verbo.

    Estrutura: 总 + 会 / 得 / 要 / 能 + Verb Phrase (+ 的 / 吧)

here这里zhè lǐis是shìhis他tāhome家jiāhe,他tāis bound to总zǒng会huìcome back回来huí lái的de。

Esta é a casa dele — ele certamente voltará.

we咱们zán menhave got to总zǒng得děithink of想xiǎng个gesome plan办法bàn fǎ吧ba。

Temos que inventar algum tipo de solução.

Lembre-se: 总 + 会/得/要/能 = "certamente / tem que." 总会回来的 ("certamente voltará"), 总得想办法 ("tem que encontrar um jeito") — uma sensação estabelecida de inevitabilidade.

    Cuidado

    • Combine com um auxiliar — 总 não pode ficar nu logo antes de um verbo principal aqui.
    2.4

毕竟 — "apenas assim / afinal"

    English

毕竟 reaches for a basic fact to justify a judgement — "after all, when all's said and done." At home in speech and writing alike.

    Structure: …… ,毕竟 …… · 毕竟 ……

    don't别biéscold骂màhim他tā了lehe,他tāafter all毕竟bì jìngis是shìa child孩子hái zi。

Stop scolding him — he's only a kid, after all.

    after all毕竟bì jìngit's是shìwinter冬天dōng tiānmore,多duōwear穿chuān点diǎn吧ba。

It's winter, after all — dress more warmly.

Remember: 毕竟 = "after all" — it pulls out an undeniable fact you shouldn't forget, to excuse or explain (他毕竟是孩子, "he's only a child, after all").

    Watch out

    • It justifies, it doesn't conclude — pair it with the fact, not the result.
    Português

毕竟 recorre a um fato básico para justificar um julgamento — "apenas assim, quando tudo é dito e feito." Tão bem em fala quanto em escrita.

    Estrutura: …… ,毕竟 …… · 毕竟 ……

    don't别biéscold骂màhim他tā了lehe,他tāafter all毕竟bì jìngis是shìa child孩子hái zi。

Pare de repreendê-lo — ele só é criança, afinal.

    after all毕竟bì jìngit's是shìwinter冬天dōng tiānmore,多duōwear穿chuān点diǎn吧ba。

    É inverno, afinal — vista-se mais aquecido.

Lembre-se: 毕竟 = "apenas assim" — traz um fato inegável que não deve esquecer, para desculpar ou explicar (他毕竟是孩子, "ele é só uma criança, afinal").

    Cuidado

    • Justifica, não conclui — combine com o fato, não com o resultado.
    2.5

差点没 + 动词 — "quase não"

    English

差点没 is 差点 + 没 — and for a desired result it flips to good news: you nearly failed but pulled it off. Read the 没 as part of the verb: "almost didn't [verb]." No 了 after.

    Structure: Subject + 差点 + 没 + Verb Phrase

    I我wǒalmost差点chà diǎndidn't没méicatch赶上gǎn shàngthe train火车huǒ chē。

I almost missed the train (but caught it).

    he他tābarely差点chà diǎn没méipassed通过tōng guòthe exam考试kǎo shì。

    He barely passed the exam.

Remember: for a wanted outcome, 差点没 = "nearly failed, but made it" (差点没赶上 = caught it!). For an unwanted one, plain 差点 (no 没) = "nearly happened, didn't" (差点迟到 = wasn't late). The 没 with a good result is the twist.

    Watch out

    • It's the classic exam trap — 差点没赶上 means you did catch it, despite the 没.
    Português

差点没 é 差点 + 没 — e para um resultado desejado, vira boa notícia: você quase falhou, mas conseguiu. Leia o 没 como parte do verbo: "quase não [verbo]." Sem 了 depois.

    Estrutura: Subject + 差点 + 没 + Verb Phrase

    I我wǒalmost差点chà diǎndidn't没méicatch赶上gǎn shàngthe train火车huǒ chē。

Quase perdi o trem (mas peguei).

    he他tābarely差点chà diǎn没méipassed通过tōng guòthe exam考试kǎo shì。

    Ele passou rasgando no exame.

Lembre-se: para um resultado desejado, 差点没 = "quase falhou, mas conseguiu" (差点没赶上 = pegou!). Para um indesejado, 差点 simples (sem 没) = "quase aconteceu, não aconteceu" (差点迟到 = não se atrasou). O 没 com um resultado bom é a inversão.

    Cuidado

    • É a clássica armadilha de prova — 差点没赶上 significa que você pegou o trem, apesar do 没.
    2.6

反正 — "de qualquer forma, de toda forma"

    English

反正 sweeps the alternatives off the table — "anyway, regardless, either way." Whatever the options, the result stands. It often follows a comma and teams up with 不管.

    Structure: [Disregarded situation] ,反正 ……

    you你nǐbelieve信xìnor not不bù信xìnanyway,反正fǎn zhèngI我wǒdo信xìn了le。

Believe it or not — anyway, I do.

    however不管bù guǎnfar多duōit is远yuǎnanyway,反正fǎn zhèngI我wǒwill要yàogo去qù。

However far it is, I'm going anyway.

Remember: 反正 = "either way, my mind's made up." It brushes the options aside — the outcome doesn't depend on them. It pairs naturally with 不管 / 无论 ("no matter…, 反正…").

    Watch out

    • It signals a settled decision — don't use it where the choice genuinely matters.
    Português

反正 descarta as alternativas — "de qualquer forma, independentemente, de qualquer jeito." Quaisquer que sejam as opções, o resultado permanece. Frequentemente segue vírgula e combina com 不管.

    Estrutura: [Disregarded situation] ,反正 ……

    you你nǐbelieve信xìnor not不bù信xìnanyway,反正fǎn zhèngI我wǒdo信xìn了le。

Acredite ou não — de qualquer forma, eu faço.

    however不管bù guǎnfar多duōit is远yuǎnanyway,反正fǎn zhèngI我wǒwill要yàogo去qù。

Seja lá qual for a distância, eu vou mesmo assim.

Lembre-se: 反正 = "de qualquer jeito, minha decisão está tomada." Ignora as opções — o resultado não depende delas. Combina naturalmente com 不管 / 无论 ("não importa…, 反正…").

    Cuidado

    • Sinaliza uma decisão tomada — não use onde a escolha realmente importa.
    2.7

    尽量 + 动词 — "o máximo possível"

    English

尽量 means push something to the limit of what you can — "as much as possible, do one's best to." It sits before a verb or adjective.

Structure: 尽量 + Verb / Adjective

    I我wǒwill会huìdo my best to尽量jǐn liànghelp帮bāngyou你nǐ。

I'll do my best to help you.

    please请qǐngas much as possible尽量jǐn liàngearly早zǎo点diǎncome来lái。

Please come as early as you can.

Remember: 尽 (exhaust) + 量 (amount) = "give it all you've got." It promises effort within limits — "I'll do what I can." 尽量早点来 = "come as early as you can manage."

    Watch out

    • It's "as much as possible," not a guarantee — it quietly admits there's a limit.
    Português

尽量 significa empurrar algo ao limite do que você pode — "o máximo possível, fazer o possível para." Fica antes de um verbo ou adjetivo.

Estrutura: 尽量 + Verb / Adjective

    I我wǒwill会huìdo my best to尽量jǐn liànghelp帮bāngyou你nǐ。

Farei o meu melhor para ajudar você.

    please请qǐngas much as possible尽量jǐn liàngearly早zǎo点diǎncome来lái。

Por favor, venha o mais cedo possível.

Lembre-se: 尽 (esgotar) + 量 (quantidade) = "dar tudo o que tem." Promessa de esforço dentro dos limites — "farei o que posso." 尽量早点来 = "venha o mais cedo que puder."*

    Cuidado

    • É "o máximo possível", não uma garantia — admite silenciosamente que há um limite.
    2.8

互相 + 动词 — "um ao outro"

    English

互相 marks a two-way action — "(do to) each other, mutually." It usually leads a two-syllable verb; a one-syllable verb needs more material after it.

    Structure: 互相 + Verb

we我们wǒ menshould应该yīng gāieach other互相hù xiānghelp帮助bāng zhù。

    We should help each other.

classmates同学tóng xuéamong之间zhī jiānshould要yàoone another互相hù xiāngrespect尊重zūn zhòng。

    Classmates should respect one another.

Remember: 互相 = "mutually, each other" — a back-and-forth action, usually with a two-syllable verb: 互相帮助, 互相了解, 互相尊重.

    Watch out

    • A one-syllable verb after 互相 feels bare — prefer the two-syllable form (互相帮助, not 互相帮).
    Português

互相 marca uma ação bidirecional — "(fazer para) um ao outro, mutuamente." Geralmente precede um verbo de dois sílabas; um verbo de uma sílaba precisa de mais material depois.

    Estrutura: 互相 + Verb

we我们wǒ menshould应该yīng gāieach other互相hù xiānghelp帮助bāng zhù。

    Deveríamos ajudar uns aos outros.

classmates同学tóng xuéamong之间zhī jiānshould要yàoone another互相hù xiāngrespect尊重zūn zhòng。

    Os colegas devem respeitar-se mutuamente.

Lembre-se: 互相 = "mutuamente, um ao outro" — uma ação de ida e volta, geralmente com um verbo de dois sílabas: 互相帮助, 互相了解, 互相尊重.

    Cuidado

    • Um verbo de uma sílaba após 互相 soa vazio — prefira a forma de dois sílabas (互相帮助, não 互相帮).
    2.9

    尽管 + 动词 — "sinta-se à vontade / faça"

    English

Here 尽管 means "feel free to, go right ahead" — urging someone not to hold back. (A completely different sense from 尽管 = "although.")

    Structure: 尽管 + Verb

if you have有yǒuany什么shén mequestions问题wèn tífeel free to尽管jǐn guǎnask问wèn。

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

if you need有yǒuany-什么shén mething事shìdon't hesitate to尽管jǐn guǎncome to找zhǎome我wǒ。

Don't hesitate to come to me if you need anything.

Remember: this 尽管 = "go right ahead, don't hold back" (有问题尽管问) — not the "although" of 尽管…但是…. Same word, two unrelated jobs; context picks.

    Watch out

    • It's encouragement, so it leads a bare verb — don't pair it with 但是 here.
    Português

Aqui 尽管 significa "sinta-se à vontade, vá em frente" — encorajando alguém a não hesitar. (Um significado completamente diferente de 尽管 = "embora.")

    Estrutura: 尽管 + Verb

if you have有yǒuany什么shén mequestions问题wèn tífeel free to尽管jǐn guǎnask问wèn。

Sinta-se à vontade para perguntar se tiver alguma dúvida.

if you need有yǒuany-什么shén mething事shìdon't hesitate to尽管jǐn guǎncome to找zhǎome我wǒ。

Não hesite em vir a mim se precisar de algo.

Lembre-se: este 尽管 = "vá em frente, não tenha medo" (有问题尽管问) — não o "embora" de 尽管…但是…. Mesma palavra, duas funções não relacionadas; o contexto decide.

    Cuidado

    • É um incentivo, então precede um verbo simples — não o combine com 但是 aqui.
    2.10

干脆 + 动词 — "apenas (faça), vale a pena"

    English

干脆 proposes a clean, decisive way out of a fiddly spot — "might as well, just (do this)." The feeling: stop overthinking and just.

Structure: Subject + 干脆 + Verb Phrase

at home家里jiā lǐnothing什么shén me都dōuthere is没有méi yǒulet's just,干脆gān cuìgo out出去chū qùto eat吃chī吧ba。

There's nothing at home — let's just eat out.

this这zhècomputer电脑diàn nǎoagain又yòubroke坏huài了lemight as well,干脆gān cuìbuy买mǎia台táinew one新的xīn de吧ba。

This computer broke again — might as well buy a new one.

Remember: 干脆 = "just do it / might as well" — it cuts the dithering and picks the cleanest, most decisive option (干脆买个新的吧).

    Watch out

    • It's a decisive suggestion — it usually closes with 吧.
    Português

干脆 propõe um caminho limpo e decisivo para sair de uma situação complicada — "vale a pena, apenas (faça isso)." A sensação: pare de pensar demais e apenas.

Estrutura: Subject + 干脆 + Verb Phrase

at home家里jiā lǐnothing什么shén me都dōuthere is没有méi yǒulet's just,干脆gān cuìgo out出去chū qùto eat吃chī吧ba。

Não há nada em casa — vamos jantar fora, apenas.

this这zhècomputer电脑diàn nǎoagain又yòubroke坏huài了lemight as well,干脆gān cuìbuy买mǎia台táinew one新的xīn de吧ba。

Este computador quebrou de novo — vale a pena comprar um novo.

    Lembre-se: 干脆 = "apenas faça / vale a pena" — corta a hesitação e escolhe a opção mais limpa e decisiva (干脆买个新的吧).

    Cuidado

    • É uma sugestão decidida — geralmente termina com 吧.
    2.11

    再也 + 不 / 没 … 了 — "nunca mais"

    English

再也不 / 没 … 了 slams the door — "never … again." The final 了 (change of state) seals the determination or the settled fact.

    Structure: Subject + 再也 + 不 / 没 + Verb Phrase + 了

    I我wǒnever again再也zài yě不bùwant to想xiǎngsee看到kàn dàoyou你nǐ了le!

I never want to see you again!

    he他tāleft走zǒu了lenever,再也zài yědid没méicome back回来huí lái。

He left and never came back.

Remember: 再也不…了 = "never AGAIN" (future); 再也没…了 = "never did again" (past). The closing 了 slams the door shut on it.

    Watch out

    • Match the negative to the time: future intention → 不; past fact → 没.
    Português

    再也不 / 没 … 了 fecha a porta — "nunca … novamente." O 了 final (mudança de estado) sela a determinação ou o fato estabelecido.

    Watch out

    • The two actions must genuinely fit together — 顺便 implies no extra effort.

    再不 … 就 … (了) — "se … não logo, então …"

    English

If you don't work hard now, you won't get in.

Remember: 再不…就…了 = "if you don't … NOW, then …!" — a ticking-clock warning with an implied "now." 再不走就迟到了 ("if we don't go now, we'll be late").

    Watch out

    • Different from the "again" 再 — here 再不 = "(if) not any longer / not now."
    Português

    好(不)容易 + 才 — "com grande dificuldade"

    English

A genuine head-scratcher: 好容易 and 好不容易 mean the same thing — "with great effort, finally managed to (after a struggle)." The 不 is not a negative here. It usually pairs with 才.

    Structure: Subject + 好(不)容易 + 才 + Result

I我wǒafter a real struggle好不容易hǎo bù róng yì才cáigot买到mǎi dàotickets票piào。

I only got tickets after a real struggle.

I finally got downtown — then realised I'd left my phone.

Remember: 好容易 = 好不容易 — both mean "only just managed, after a real struggle." That 不 is a red herring, not a negative. Both pair with 才 (好不容易才买到票).

    Watch out

    • Don't "fix" the 不 — 好不容易才到 means it was hard to arrive, not easy.
    Português

Um verdadeiro quebra-cabeça: 好容易 e 好不容易 significam a mesma coisa — "com grande esforço, finalmente conseguiu (após luta)." O 不 não é negativo aqui. Geralmente aparece com 才.

    Estrutura: Subject + 好(不)容易 + 才 + Result

I我wǒafter a real struggle好不容易hǎo bù róng yì才cáigot买到mǎi dàotickets票piào。

Só consegui ingressos depois de uma verdadeira luta.

Finalmente cheguei ao centro da cidade — então realizei que deixei meu celular.

Lembre-se: 好容易 = 好不容易 — ambos significam "apenas conseguiu, após luta real." Esse 不 é um falso negativo, não é negação. Ambos aparecem com 才 (好不容易才买到票).

    Cuidado

    • Não "corrija" o 不 — 好不容易才到 significa que foi difícil chegar, não fácil.

白 + 动词 — "em vão, em vão"

    English

白 before a (usually one-syllable) verb means the effort was wasted — "(did) in vain, for nothing." It often takes 了. (白 can also mean "for free.")

    Structure: 白 + Verb (+ 了)

    he他tādidn't没méicome来láiI,我wǒin vain白báiwaited等děng了lean一个yí gehour小时xiǎo shí。

He didn't come — I waited an hour for nothing.

Wasted a hundred kuai — these clothes can't even be worn.

Remember: 白 + verb = effort that drew a BLANK — 白等 (waited for nothing), 白跑 (a wasted trip), 白花钱 (money down the drain). 白 also means "for free" (白吃白住) — context tells which.

    Watch out

    • Usually one-syllable verbs: 白跑, 白等, 白做, 白花.
    Português

白 antes de um verbo (geralmente monossílabo) significa que o esforço foi perdido — "fez em vão, em vão." Frequentemente leva 了. (白 também pode significar "grátis.")

    Estrutura: 白 + Verb (+ 了)

    he他tādidn't没méicome来láiI,我wǒin vain白báiwaited等děng了lean一个yí gehour小时xiǎo shí。

Desperdicei cem kuai — essas roupas nem dá para usar.

Lembre-se: 白 + verbo = esforço que deu ZERO — 白等 (esperou em vão), 白跑 (viagem perdida), 白花钱 (dinheiro jogado fora). 白 também significa "grátis" (白吃白住) — o contexto diz qual.

    Cuidado

    • Geralmente verbos monossílabos: 白跑, 白等, 白做, 白花.

    动词 + 了 + 又 + 动词 — "e de novo (no passado)"

    English

    Repeat a single-syllable verb around 了 … 又 … to paint a drawn-out, repeated past action — "…ed and …ed." It's often chased by 还是 / 就是 ("but still …").

    Structure: Subject + Verb + 了 + 又 + (same) Verb ,(还是 / 就是) ……

    this person这个人zhè ge rénI我wǒlooked看kàn了leand又yòulooked看kànstill,还是hái shìdon't不bùrecognise认识rèn shi。

He thought it over and over, and in the end still didn't go.

Remember: V了又V = "…ed and …ed (and still…)" — a single-syllable verb worn down by repetition (看了又看, 想了又想). The 了 sits after the first verb; 还是 / 就是 often follows to say nothing changed.

    Watch out

    • Single-syllable verbs only (看, 想, 问, 找, 试) — the doubling is what shows the repetition.
    Português

Repita um verbo monossílabo ao redor de 了 … 又 … para pintar uma ação passada prolongada e repetida — "…ou e …ou." Frequentemente seguido por 还是 / 就是 ("mas ainda …").

    Estrutura: Subject + Verb + 了 + 又 + (same) Verb ,(还是 / 就是) ……

    this person这个人zhè ge rénI我wǒlooked看kàn了leand又yòulooked看kànstill,还是hái shìdon't不bùrecognise认识rèn shi。

Olhei e olhei, mas ainda não o conheço.

    he他tāthought想xiǎng了leand又yòuthought想xiǎngin the end,最后zuì hòustill还是hái shìdidn't没méigo去qù。

Pensou e repensou, e no fim ainda não foi.

Lembre-se: V了又V = "…ou e …ou (e ainda…)" — um verbo monossílabo desgastado pela repetição (看了又看, 想了又想). O 了 vem após o primeiro verbo; 还是 / 就是 frequentemente seguem para dizer que nada mudou.

    Cuidado

    • Apenas verbos monossílabos (看, 想, 问, 找, 试) — é o duplicar que mostra a repetição.

Remember: 彼此 = "that-and-this" = each other — the formal sibling of 互相, with a two-syllable verb (信任, 了解, 尊重). Bonus idiom: 彼此彼此 = "likewise / same to you."

    Watch out

    Português

彼此 (literalmente "aquele e este") significa "um ao outro, ambos os lados" — um primo levemente formal de 互相. Como objeto, prefere um verbo de duas sílabas; também pode ficar sozinho.

名词 + 这个 + Categoria — chamando de nome com 这个

    English

Slot 这个 + category after a name or pronoun and it adds a wry, evaluative colour — "you, … of a …, this so-called …." It paints the noun with the speaker's attitude, fond or critical.

Structure: Noun / Pronoun + 这个 + Category

Remember: Noun + 这个 + category = identification with an attitude — 你这个人啊… ("you — honestly!"). It's not neutral pointing; it carries the speaker's feeling, affectionate or exasperated.

    Watch out

    • Very colloquial — 你这个人, 他这个孩子. In neutral identification you'd just drop the 这个.
    Português

Insira 这个 + categoria após um nome ou pronome e isso adiciona uma cor irônica e avaliativa — "você, … de um …, este tal de …." Pinta o substantivo com a atitude do falante, carinhosa ou crítica.

    Verbo + Objeto + 了 — posição avançada do 了

    English

The completion 了 can sit right after the verb or after the object — and which you pick depends on the object's length. With a short object, either works; with a long object, put 了 right after the verb so the listener isn't left hanging. 了 can also chain "after doing A, then B" in a future sequence.

    Structure: Subject + Verb + 了 + Object · Subject + Verb + Object + 了

I我wǒtoday今天jīn tiānsaw见jiàn了lean一个yí geold friend老朋友lǎo péng you。

I saw an old friend today.

    you你nǐget到dào了lehome家jiā给gěime我wǒcall打电话dǎ diàn huà。

Call me once you've got home.

Remember: short object → 了 either side; LONG object → 了 right after the verb (见了一个很久没见的老朋友 — don't make the listener wait for the 了). And V了O就… chains two future actions: 下了课就去找你 ("come find you after class").

    Watch out

    • With a long, modified object, 了 after the object reads awkwardly — keep it on the verb.
    Português

A completude expressa por 了 pode vir logo após o verbo ou após o objeto — e qual escolher depende do tamanho do objeto. Com um objeto curto, ambos funcionam; com um objeto longo, coloque 了 logo após o verbo para que o ouvinte não tenha que esperar. 了 também pode encadear "após fazer A, então B" em uma sequência futura.

    Estrutura: Subject + Verb + 了 + Object · Subject + Verb + Object + 了

I我wǒtoday今天jīn tiānsaw见jiàn了lean一个yí geold friend老朋友lǎo péng you。

    Vi um velho amigo hoje.

    you你nǐget到dào了lehome家jiā给gěime我wǒcall打电话dǎ diàn huà。

Me ligue assim que chegar em casa.

Lembre-se: objeto curto → 了 de qualquer lado; OBJETO LONGO → 了 logo após o verbo (见了一个很久没见的老朋友 — não faça o ouvinte esperar pelo 了). E V了O就… encadeia duas ações futuras: 下了课就去找你 ("vim te buscar depois da aula").

    Cuidado

    • Com um objeto longo modificado, colocar 了 após o objeto soa awkward — mantenha-o no verbo.
    6.2

    Verbo + 了 + Complemento — 了 avançado com complementos

    English

When a complement follows the verb, 了 usually goes after the complement (吃完了, 买到了). Wedging it between the verb and complement (站了起来) is more written, and limited mostly to direction complements.

    Structure: Subject + Verb + Complement + 了 · (rarer) Subject + Verb + 了 + Complement

    the tickets票piàosold卖màiout光guāng了le。

    The tickets are sold out.

    he他tāstood站zhàn了leup起来qǐ lái。

    He stood up.

Remember: default: 了 AFTER the complement (吃完了, 卖光了). 了 between verb and complement is the exception — mostly direction complements (站了起来, 跑了过来), and more written.

    Watch out

    • 吃了完 is wrong — the 了 sits after the whole verb-complement: 吃完了.
    Português

Quando um complemento segue o verbo, 了 geralmente vai depois do complemento (吃完了, 买到了). Colocá-lo entre o verbo e o complemento (站了起来) é mais literário e limitado principalmente a complementos de direção.

    Estrutura: Subject + Verb + Complement + 了 · (mais raro) Subject + Verb + 了 + Complement

    the tickets票piàosold卖màiout光guāng了le。

    Os ingressos estão esgotados.

    he他tāstood站zhàn了leup起来qǐ lái。

    Ele levantou-se.

Lembre-se: padrão: 了 DEPOIS do complemento (吃完了, 卖光了). 了 entre o verbo e o complemento é exceção — principalmente complementos de direção (站了起来, 跑了过来), e mais literário.

    Cuidado

    • 吃了完 está errado — o 了 fica após todo o verbo-complemento: 吃完了.

    Watch out

    Português

A partícula 嘛 após um tópico permite nomeá-lo e, em seguida, comentar — "no que diz respeito a …, bem, …". O comentário é frequentemente algo que se trata como autoevidente — um suave "bem, óbvio…"

Remember: 至于 = a clean topic-switch ("as for X…") — it parks the last point and turns to a fresh one. Like English "as for…", it sits at the head of the new topic.

    Watch out

    • It introduces a new topic, not a contrast — don't use it where you mean "but".
    Português

至于 muda para um novo tópico — "no que diz respeito a, quando se trata de, quanto a".

    Estrutura: 至于 + Topic ,Comment

as for至于zhì yúthe price价格jià géwe,我们wǒ menlater以后yǐ hòuagain再zàidiscuss谈tán。

No que diz respeito ao preço, vamos discutir depois.

I我wǒagree同意tóng yìas for,至于zhì yúhow怎么zěn meto do it做zuòit's up to,听tīngyou你nǐ的de。

Concordo; quanto a como fazer, é com você.

Lembre-se: 至于 = uma troca limpa de tópico ("no que diz respeito a X…") — deixa o último ponto de lado e passa a um novo. Como o inglês "as for…", situa-se à frente do novo tópico.

    Cuidado

    • Introduz um novo tópico, não um contraste — não use onde significa "mas".

    给 … 给 … — passivo com 给

    English

A 给 before the doer plus a 给 before the verb makes a colloquial passive — "(it) got …ed (by someone)." The second 给 stands in for 被.

    Structure: Receiver + 给 + Doer + 给 + Verb Phrase

    my我wǒ的decake蛋糕dàn gāoby给gěilittle brother弟弟dì di给gěieaten吃chī了le。

My cake got eaten by my little brother.

    the cup杯子bēi ziby给gěihim他tā给gěibroken打破dǎ pò了le。

The cup got broken by him.

Remember: the second 给 ≈ 被 — 给 (doer) 给 (verb) is a chatty passive: 蛋糕给弟弟给吃了 ("the cake got eaten by little brother"). Casual speech only.

    Watch out

    • It's colloquial — in writing use 被 (蛋糕被弟弟吃了).
    Português

Um 给 antes do agente mais um 给 antes do verbo formam um passivo coloquial — "ficou … (por alguém)". O segundo 给 substitui 被.

    Estrutura: Receiver + 给 + Doer + 给 + Verb Phrase

    my我wǒ的decake蛋糕dàn gāoby给gěilittle brother弟弟dì di给gěieaten吃chī了le。

Meu bolo foi comido pelo meu irmãozinho.

    the cup杯子bēi ziby给gěihim他tā给gěibroken打破dǎ pò了le。

O copo foi quebrado por ele.

Lembre-se: o segundo 给 ≈ 被 — 给 (agente) 给 (verbo) é um passivo descontraído: 蛋糕给弟弟给吃了 ("o bolo foi comido pelo irmão menor"). Apenas fala casual.

    Cuidado

    • É coloquial — na escrita use 被 (蛋糕被弟弟吃了).

    就 … (来说 / 而言) — "no que diz respeito a"

    English

就 … 来说 / 而言 narrows the discussion to one aspect — "as far as … goes, in terms of …."

    Structure: 就 + Aspect + 来说 / 而言 ,……

in terms of就jiùquality质量zhì liàng来说lái shuōthis one,这个zhè ge更gèngbetter好hǎo。

In terms of quality, this one's better.

as就jiùthings stand now目前mù qián而言ér yánthere's no,没有méi yǒuproblem问题wèn tí。

As things stand now, there's no problem.

Remember: 就 X 来说 / 而言 = "in terms of X" — it zooms the lens onto a single aspect for the comment that follows (就质量来说…, 就目前而言…). This 就 isn't "then" — it's "regarding".

    Watch out

    • Don't confuse this 就 with the time/quantity 就 — here it's a topic-narrowing "as regards".
    Português

就 … 来说 / 而言 restringe a discussão a um único aspecto — "no que diz respeito a …, em termos de …"

    Estrutura: 就 + Aspect + 来说 / 而言 ,……

in terms of就jiùquality质量zhì liàng来说lái shuōthis one,这个zhè ge更gèngbetter好hǎo。

Em termos de qualidade, este é melhor.

as就jiùthings stand now目前mù qián而言ér yánthere's no,没有méi yǒuproblem问题wèn tí。

    Neste momento, não há problema.

    Lembre-se: que X 来说 / 而言 = "em termos de X" — foca a lente em um único aspecto para o comentário subsequente (就质量来说…, 就目前而言…). Este 就 não é "então" — é "no que diz respeito a".

    Cuidado

    • Não confunda este 就 com o 就 de tempo/quantidade — aqui é um "no que diz respeito a" que restringe o tópico.
    8.9

    趁 — "enquanto, aproveitando a chance"

    English

趁 grabs a favourable moment or condition — "while, taking advantage of (the chance)."

    Structure: 趁 + Situation / Opportunity ……

    while趁chènthe weather天气tiān qìgood好hǎowe,我们wǒ mengo去qùfor a picnic野餐yě cān吧ba。

While the weather's good, let's go for a picnic.

while趁chènyou're young年轻nián qīngmore,多duōgo out出去chū qùand see things走走zǒu zou吧ba。

While you're young, get out and see things.

Remember: 趁 = "seize the moment / while it lasts" — grab the chance before it's gone. Set phrases nail the feel: 趁热吃 ("eat while it's hot"), 趁早 ("while there's still time"), 趁年轻.

    Watch out

    • It needs a favourable window — for a plain "when," use 当…的时候.
    Português

趁 agarra um momento ou condição favorável — "enquanto, aproveitando (a chance)".

    Estrutura: 趁 + Situation / Opportunity ……

    while趁chènthe weather天气tiān qìgood好hǎowe,我们wǒ mengo去qùfor a picnic野餐yě cān吧ba。

Enquanto o tempo estiver bom, vamos a um piquenique.

while趁chènyou're young年轻nián qīngmore,多duōgo out出去chū qùand see things走走zǒu zou吧ba。

Enquanto você é jovem, saia e veja coisas.

Lembre-se: 趁 = "aproveitar o momento / enquanto dura" — agarre a chance antes que acabe. Frases feitas fixam o sentido: 趁热吃 ("coma enquanto estiver quente"), 趁早 ("enquanto houver tempo"), 趁年轻.

    Cuidado

    • Precisa de uma janela favorável — para um simples "quando", use 当…的时候.

要不是 …… (的话) ,…… — "se não fosse por"

    English

要不是 sets up a counterfactual — "if it weren't for …, (then) …" (≈ 如果不是). The second clause says what would otherwise have happened.

Structure: 要不是 + Condition (的话) ,……

if it weren't for要不是yào bú shìyou你nǐI,我wǒwould会huìget lost迷路mí lù。

If it weren't for you, I'd get lost.

if it weren't for要不是yào bú shìthe traffic堵车dǔ chēI,我wǒalready早就zǎo jiùarrived到dào了le。

If not for the traffic, I'd already be here.

Remember: 要不是 = "if it weren't for…" (= 如果不是) — an unreal condition that didn't happen, with the result clause spelling out the road not taken. 要不是堵车,我早就到了 ("if not for the traffic, I'd be there").

    Watch out

    • It's counterfactual — the condition is contrary to fact (there was traffic), so the result is what would have been.
    Português

要不是 estabelece um condicional contrafactual — "se não fosse por …, (então) …" (≈ 如果不是). A segunda oração diz o que de outra forma teria acontecido.

Estrutura: 要不是 + Condition (的话) ,……

if it weren't for要不是yào bú shìyou你nǐI,我wǒwould会huìget lost迷路mí lù。

Se não fosse por você, eu me perderia.

if it weren't for要不是yào bú shìthe traffic堵车dǔ chēI,我wǒalready早就zǎo jiùarrived到dào了le。

Se não fosse o trânsito, já estaria aqui.

Lembre-se: 要不是 = "se não fosse por…" (= 如果不是) — uma condição irreal que não aconteceu, com a oração do resultado descrevendo o caminho não seguido. 要不是堵车,我早就到了 ("se não fosse o trânsito, já teria chegado lá").

    Cuidado

    • É contrafactual — a condição é contrária aos fatos (havia trânsito), então o resultado é o que teria sido.

    多亏 (了) — "graças a, felizmente"

    English

多亏 gives grateful credit that a bad outcome was dodged — "thanks to, luckily (because of)." It often takes 了 and pairs with 不然 / 否则 ("otherwise").

Structure: Good Outcome ,多亏 (了) + Lucky Incident

    I我wǒwasn't没méilate迟到chí dàothanks to,多亏duō kuī了leyou你nǐdriving开车kāi chēme送sòng我wǒ。

I wasn't late, thanks to you giving me a ride.

luckily多亏duō kuīyou你nǐreminded me提醒tí xǐngotherwise,不然bù ránI我wǒsurely肯定kěn dìngforget忘wàng了le。

Luckily you reminded me — otherwise I'd definitely have forgotten.

Remember: 多亏 = "thanks to (you/it), disaster dodged." It credits a specific person or thing (whereas 幸亏 thanks plain luck), and it loves a 不然 / 否则 to spell out the averted bad outcome.

    Watch out

    • It's gratitude for a near-miss — pair it with the "otherwise…" to show what was avoided.
    Português

多亏 atribui crédito de gratidão por um resultado ruim ter sido evitado — "graças a, felizmente (por causa de)." Frequentemente leva 了 e combina com 不然 / 否则 ("caso contrário").

Estrutura: Good Outcome ,多亏 (了) + Lucky Incident

    I我wǒwasn't没méilate迟到chí dàothanks to,多亏duō kuī了leyou你nǐdriving开车kāi chēme送sòng我wǒ。

Não me atrasei, graças a você me dar carona.

luckily多亏duō kuīyou你nǐreminded me提醒tí xǐngotherwise,不然bù ránI我wǒsurely肯定kěn dìngforget忘wàng了le。

Felizmente você me lembrou — caso contrário, eu definitivamente teria esquecido.

Lembre-se: 多亏 = "graças a (você/ele), desastre evitado." Atribui crédito a uma pessoa ou coisa específica (enquanto 幸亏 apenas à sorte), e adora 不然 / 否则 para detalhar o resultado ruim que foi evitado.

    Cuidado

    • É gratidão por uma situação limítrofe — combine-o com o "caso contrário…" para mostrar o que foi evitado.
    9.3

    (仅仅) 是 …… 而已 — "é só isso, meramente"

    English

End a sentence with 而已 to play the matter down — "merely …, that's all, nothing more." It often rides with 只是 / 就是 / 才.

    Structure: (只是 / 就是 +) …… + 而已

just a一杯yì bēicoffee咖啡kā fēithat's all而已ér yǐdon't,别biéso这么zhè mebe moved感动gǎn dòng。

    It's just a coffee — don't be so touched.

I我wǒwas just只是zhǐ shìmaking开kāi个gea joke玩笑wán xiàothat's all而已ér yǐ。

I was only joking, that's all.

Remember: 而已 deflates: "…and that's ALL, no big deal." It tags the end of a sentence, often after 只是 / 就是 (只是开玩笑而已), shrinking the thing to nothing much.

    Watch out

    • It minimises — don't use it where you actually want to emphasise.
    Português

Termine uma frase com 而已 para minimizar a questão — "meramente …, é só isso, nada mais." Frequentemente vem junto com 只是 / 就是 / 才.

    Estrutura: (只是 / 就是 +) …… + 而已

just a一杯yì bēicoffee咖啡kā fēithat's all而已ér yǐdon't,别biéso这么zhè mebe moved感动gǎn dòng。

É só um café — não seja tão comovente.

I我wǒwas just只是zhǐ shìmaking开kāi个gea joke玩笑wán xiàothat's all而已ér yǐ。

Eu estava apenas brincando, é só isso.

Lembre-se: 而已 diminui: "…e é SÓ ISSO, sem importância." Ele marca o final da frase, frequentemente após 只是 / 就是 (只是开玩笑而已), reduzindo a coisa a pouco relevante.

    Cuidado

    • Ele minimiza — não use onde você realmente quer enfatizar.
    9.4

    将 — formal 把

    English

In formal or written Chinese, 将 does the job of 把, moving the object before the verb — "take (object) and …."

    Structure: Subject + 将 + Object + Verb Phrase

he他tā将jiāngall the这些zhè xiēcake蛋糕dàn gāo都dōuate up吃完chī wán了le。

He ate up all the cake.

    please请qǐng将jiāngyour phone手机shǒu jīset调tiáoto成chéngsilent静音jìng yīn。

Please set your phone to silent.

Remember: 将 = the written-Chinese 把 — same disposal job, formal register (将手机调成静音 = 把手机调成静音). You'll meet it in notices and announcements. (将 also means future "will / shall" — a separate use.)

    Watch out

    • Keep it for formal/written contexts — in speech, 把 is the natural choice.
    Português

Em chinês formal ou escrito, 将 faz o papel de 把, movendo o objeto antes do verbo — "pegue (objeto) e… ."

    Estrutura: Subject + 将 + Object + Verb Phrase

he他tā将jiāngall the这些zhè xiēcake蛋糕dàn gāo都dōuate up吃完chī wán了le。

    Ele comeu todo o bolo.

    please请qǐng将jiāngyour phone手机shǒu jīset调tiáoto成chéngsilent静音jìng yīn。

Por favor, coloque seu telefone no modo silencioso.

Lembre-se: 将 = o 把 escrito em chinês — mesma função de disposição, registro formal (将手机调成静音 = 把手机调成静音). Você encontrará em avisos e comunicados. (将 também significa futuro "will / shall" — uso separado.)

    Cuidado

    • Mantenha-o para contextos formais/escritos — na fala, 把 é a escolha natural.

动词 + 什么 — questionar uma ação

    English

A verb followed by 什么 (often the same verb again) is a rhetorical, annoyed pushback — "what are you …ing for? / stop …ing!" With a separable verb, 什么 splits the two halves.

Structure: Verb + 什么 + (same) Verb · Verb + 什么 + Object

you你nǐcrying哭kūwhat for什么shén me哭kūit's not as if,又yòu不是bú shìthere's no没有méi yǒuyour你nǐ的degift礼物lǐ wù。

divorce离líwhat什么shén me婚hūnyou!你们nǐ menonly才cáimarried结婚jié hūnthree months三个月sān ge yuè。

Divorce?! You've only been married three months!

Remember: V + 什么 (+ V) = an irritated "what are you …ing for?!" — 哭什么哭 ("quit crying!"), 急什么 ("what's the rush?!"). Separable verbs split around it: 离什么婚, 道什么歉.

    Watch out

    • It's blunt and familiar — fine between close friends/family, rude to strangers.
    Português

Um verbo seguido por 什么 (muitas vezes o mesmo verbo novamente) é uma resposta retórica e irritada — "para que está …ando? / pare de …ar!" Com um verbo separável, 什么 divide as duas partes.

Estrutura: Verb + 什么 + (same) Verb · Verb + 什么 + Object

you你nǐcrying哭kūwhat for什么shén me哭kūit's not as if,又yòu不是bú shìthere's no没有méi yǒuyour你nǐ的degift礼物lǐ wù。

Para que você está chorando? Não é como se não houvesse presente para você.

divorce离líwhat什么shén me婚hūnyou!你们nǐ menonly才cáimarried结婚jié hūnthree months三个月sān ge yuè。

Divórcio?! Vocês estão casados há apenas três meses!

Lembre-se: V + 什么 (+ V) = um "para que está …ando?!" irritado — 哭什么哭 ("pare de chorar!"), 急什么 ("qual a pressa?!"). Verbos separáveis dividem ao redor dele: 离什么婚, 道什么歉.

    Cuidado

    • É direto e familiar — ok entre amigos próximos/família, rude para estranhos.

    English

像 means "(just) like"; 不像 + B + 这么 / 那么 + Adj says A falls short of B on some quality — "not as … as B."

    Structure: Noun 1 + 像 + Noun 2 + 一样 + Adj · Noun 1 + 不像 + Noun 2 + 这么 / 那么 + Adj

Remember: 像…一样 = "just like"; 不像…那么… = "not as … as." 今天不像昨天那么冷 ("today isn't as cold as yesterday"). The 这么 / 那么 carries the degree being fallen short of.

    Watch out

    Português

    Remember: 比起 B (来) / 与 B 相比 = "set against B, …" — it foregrounds the yardstick B, then delivers the verdict on A. The everyday cousin is 跟…比起来 (HSK 3).

    Watch out

    • It frames the comparison; for a plain "A is more X than B," a bare 比 (A比B…) is enough.
    Português

    Lembre-se: 比起 B (来) / 与 B 相比 = "contraposto a B, …" — coloca em destaque a referência B, depois entrega o veredito sobre A. O primo do dia a dia é 跟…比起来 (HSK 3).

    Cuidado

    • Ele estrutura a comparação; para um simples "A é mais X que B", um 比 nu (A比B…) basta.

    Watch out

    • It's a productive academic suffix — great for abstract/process nouns, odd on everyday ones.
    Português

O sufixo 化 transforma um substantivo ou adjetivo em um verbo de processo — "-ize, -ify, tornar-se."

    将 / 将要 / 将会 — futuro formal

    English

将 (and 将要 / 将会) marks a future action in formal or written Chinese — "will, shall, is going to." It's the news-and-notice equivalent of the spoken 会 / 要.

    Structure: Subject + 将 / 将要 / 将会 + Verb Phrase

    the conference大会dà huìwill将jiāngon于yútomorrow明天míng tiānbegin开始kāi shǐ。

    The conference will begin tomorrow.

    he他tāwill将jiāngbecome成为chéng wéia一个yí gegood好hǎofather爸爸bà ba。

Remember: 将 = the written "will" — the register of news and notices (大会将于明天开始); in speech you'd say 会 / 要. It combines freely: 将会, 将要, same meaning. (The very same 将 also serves as a formal 把 — context decides.)

    Watch out

    • Reserve it for formal/written contexts — 将 in casual chat sounds stiff.
    Português

将 (e 将要 / 将会) marca uma ação futura no chinês formal ou escrito — "will, shall, is going to." É o equivalente jornalístico e de avisos do 会 / 要 falado.

    Cuidado

    • Reserve-o para contextos formais/escritos — 将 em bate-papo casual soa rígido.

    Watch out

    • It mostly lives in fixed two-syllable combos — learn them as units rather than building 受 freely.
    Português

    English

After Adj + 得, a fixed phrase like 很 / 不得了 / 要命 / 不行 cranks the quality to an extreme — "… terribly, … like crazy." (You already know -死了 and -极了; these are the other common ones.)

    Structure: Adjective + 得 + 很 / 不得了 / 要命 / 不行

    this这个zhè gechild孩子hái ziselfish自私zì sīterribly得很de hěn。

Remember: a kit of "…like crazy" tails after Adj + 得: 得很, 得不得了, 得要命, 得不行 (all "… to death / unbearably"). They sit alongside the -死了 / -极了 you already know.

    Watch out

    • These all need the 得 (自私得很); the -死了 / -极了 forms attach bare.
    Português

Após Adj + 得, uma expressão fixa como 很 / 不得了 / 要命 / 不行 eleva a qualidade a um extremo — "… terrivelmente, … tipo louco." (Você já conhece -死了 e -极了; estes são os outros comuns.)

    Estrutura: Adjective + 得 + 很 / 不得了 / 要命 / 不行

动词 + 得了 / 不了 — advanced potential complements

    English

得了 / 不了 (here 了 reads liǎo) after a verb asks whether the action can be managed or pulled off — often hinting at an outside factor. 不了 ≈ "can't (because of circumstances)."

Structure: Verb + 得了 / 不了

    so这么zhè memuch多duōfood菜càiI,我wǒeat吃chīcan't manage不了bù liǎo。

So much food — I can't finish it all.

    he他tāso那么nà meold老lǎowalk,走zǒucan manage得了de liǎothat那么nà mefar多duō路lù吗ma?

He's so old — can he walk that far?

Remember: 了 here = liǎo ("manage / finish") — V得了 / V不了 = "can / can't pull it off," usually due to circumstances (吃不了 "can't finish," 去不了 "can't make it"). Different from 不能 ("not allowed").

    Watch out

    • Mind the reading: 了 = liǎo here, not the le of completion.
    Português

得了 / 不了 (aqui 了 lê-se liǎo) após um verbo questiona se a ação pode ser manejada ou realizada — muitas vezes sugerindo um fator externo. 不了 ≈ "não consigo (por circunstâncias)."

Estrutura: Verb + 得了 / 不了

    Cuidado

    • Atenção à pronúncia: 了 = liǎo aqui, não o le de completude.

    动词 + 住 / 开 / 出(来) — advanced result complements

    English

Three handy result complements: 住 = hold firm / come to a halt (记住, 停住); 开 = apart / away, or relief from a worry (走开, 想开 "let it go"); 出(来) = come into being / figure out (想出来, 看出来).

    Structure: Verb + 住 / 开 / 出(来)

    I我wǒremember记jìcan't不bùhold住zhùso这么zhè memany多duōnew words生词shēng cí。

I can't retain so many new words.

Remember: picture each complement: 住 = grip/stop (记住 "hold in memory," 停住 "halt"); 开 = part/away (走开 "go away," 想开 "open up the knot = get over it"); 出(来) = bring forth (想出来 "think up," 看出来 "make out").

    Watch out

    • 想开 ("let it go") vs 想出来 ("think up") — same 想, opposite results from the complement.
    Português

Três complementos de resultado úteis: 住 = segurar firme / parar (记住, 停住); 开 = separado / longe, ou alívio de uma preocupação (走开, 想开 "deixar ir"); 出(来) = nascer / descobrir (想出来, 看出来).

    Estrutura: Verb + 住 / 开 / 出(来)

    I我wǒremember记jìcan't不bùhold住zhùso这么zhè memany多duōnew words生词shēng cí。

Não consigo reter tantas palavras novas.

let想xiǎngit go开kāia bit一点yì diǎndon't,别biébe sad难过nán guò了le。

Tente deixar ir — não fique triste.

Lembre-se: visualize cada complemento: 住 = agarre/parar (记住 "guardar na memória," 停住 "parar"); 开 = separar/longe (走开 "ir embora," 想开 "desatar o nó = passar por cima"); 出(来) = trazer à tona (想出来 "inventar," 看出来 "perceber").

    Cuidado

    • 想开 ("deixar ir") vs 想出来 ("inventar") — mesmo 想, resultados opostos do complemento.
    18.4

    动词 + 坏了 — "… terrivelmente, … aos pedacinhos"

    English

The complement 坏了 (like 死了) means a feeling has hit an overwhelming pitch — "… terribly, … to bits." Despite 坏 ("bad"), it just means "extremely," and can even be positive.

    Structure: Adjective / psych-Verb + 坏了

    everyone大家dà jiā都dōutired累lèiout坏了huài le。

    Everyone was worn out.

the child孩子hái ziwent missing不见bú jiàn了lethe mother,妈妈mā mafrantic急jí坏了huài le。

The child went missing — the mother was frantic.

Remember: 坏了 = "…to bits," not "broken" — pure intensity, even for good feelings: 累坏了 (worn out), 饿坏了 (starving), 急坏了 (frantic), 高兴坏了 (thrilled to bits).

    Watch out

    • Don't read 高兴坏了 as "happiness broke" — 坏了 is just "extremely."
    Português

O complemento 坏了 (como 死了) significa que um sentimento atingiu um patamar avassalador — "… terrivelmente, … aos pedacinhos." Apesar de 坏 ("ruim"), significa apenas "extremamente", e pode até ser positivo.

    Estrutura: Adjective / psych-Verb + 坏了

    everyone大家dà jiā都dōutired累lèiout坏了huài le。

    Todos estavam exaustos.

the child孩子hái ziwent missing不见bú jiàn了lethe mother,妈妈mā mafrantic急jí坏了huài le。

A criança desapareceu — a mãe ficou frenética.

Lembre-se: 坏了 = "…aos pedacinhos", não "quebrado" — intensidade pura, inclusive para sentimentos bons: 累坏了 (exausto), 饿坏了 (com fome de matar), 急坏了 (frenético), 高兴坏了 (extasiado até os ossos).

    Cuidado

    • Não leia 高兴坏了 como "a felicidade quebrou" — 坏了 é apenas "extremamente."

    动词 + 着 — the result complement 着 (zháo)

    English

着 (read zháo) after a verb means the action hit its mark — "succeeded in, managed to." Don't confuse it with the aspect particle 着 (zhe). Its potential forms are 得着 / 不着.

    Structure: Verb + 着 (zháo)

    the baby宝宝bǎo baojust刚gāngfell asleep睡着shuì zháo。

    The baby just fell asleep.

last night昨晚zuó wǎnI我wǒdidn't没méimanage to sleep睡着shuì zháo。

I couldn't fall asleep last night.

Remember: 着 = zháo here = "hit the target, succeeded" — 睡着 (managed to sleep), 找着 (found), 买不着 (can't get hold of). A world away from the zhe of an ongoing state (门开着).

    Watch out

    • Two readings, two jobs: 睡着 (zháo, "fell asleep," a result) vs 开着 (zhe, "is open," a state).
    Português

着 (lê-se zháo) após um verbo significa que a ação atingiu o alvo — "conseguiu, managed to." Não confunda com a partícula aspectual 着 (zhe). Suas formas potenciais são 得着 / 不着.

    Estrutura: Verb + 着 (zháo)

    the baby宝宝bǎo baojust刚gāngfell asleep睡着shuì zháo。

    O bebê acabou de adormecer.

last night昨晚zuó wǎnI我wǒdidn't没méimanage to sleep睡着shuì zháo。

Não consegui dormir ontem à noite.

Lembre-se: 着 = zháo aqui = "atingiu o alvo, conseguiu" — 睡着 (conseguir dormir), 找着 (encontrou), 买不着 (não consegue comprar). Longe do zhe de um estado contínuo (门开着).

    Cuidado

    • Duas pronúncias, dois trabalhos: 睡着 (zháo, "adormeceu", um resultado) vs 开着 (zhe, "está aberto", um estado).

    动词 + 到 — tricky uses of 到

    English

到 after a verb makes achievement explicit: 找 ("look for") vs 找到 ("find"); 做 vs 做到 ("accomplish"); 买 vs 买到 ("succeed in buying"). Without 到, a verb can shade into "try to."

    Structure: Verb + 到

    you你nǐmust一定yí dìng要yàofind it找到zhǎo dào。

    You must find it.

    I我wǒdidn't没méiexpect想到xiǎng dàoyou你nǐtoo也yěcame来lái了le。

    I didn't expect you'd come too.

Remember: 到 stamps "achieved" onto the verb: 找 (search) → 找到 (find), 买 → 买到 (succeed in buying), 想 → 想到 (think of / expect). A bare verb can mean just "try to."

    Watch out

    • 找 vs 找到 is the classic pair: 找了半天 ("searched for ages") doesn't say you 找到 ("found") it.
    Português

到 após um verbo torna a conquista explícita: 找 ("procurar") vs 找到 ("achar"); 做 vs 做到 ("realizar"); 买 vs 买到 ("conseguir comprar"). Sem 到, um verbo pode tender a "tentar fazer."

    Estrutura: Verb + 到

    you你nǐmust一定yí dìng要yàofind it找到zhǎo dào。

    Você deve achá-lo.

    I我wǒdidn't没méiexpect想到xiǎng dàoyou你nǐtoo也yěcame来lái了le。

Eu não esperava que você viesse também.

Lembre-se: 到 carimba "conquistado" no verbo: 找 (pesquisar) → 找到 (achar), 买 → 买到 (conseguir comprar), 想 → 想到 (pensar em / esperar). Um verbo nu pode significar apenas "tentar fazer."

    Cuidado

    • 找 vs 找到 é o par clássico: 找了半天 ("procurei por tempo todo") não diz que você 找到 ("achou") ele.

    English

Wrap one verb in 来 … 去 to paint a repeated, aimless action — "…ing back and forth, over and over." The same single-syllable verb repeats on both sides.

    Structure: Verb + 来 + (same) Verb + 去

he他tā在zàithe exam hall考场kǎo chǎngoutside外面wài miànpaced back and forth走来走去zǒu lái zǒu qù。

I thought it over and over but still couldn't work it out.

Remember: V来V去 = "back and forth, round and round" — the same one-syllable verb on both sides, painting restless repetition: 走来走去 (pacing), 想来想去 (mulling), 说来说去 (going on about it), 翻来覆去 (tossing and turning).

    Watch out

    • It carries a faintly futile / restless tone — lots of motion, often no result.
    Português

Envolva um verbo em 来 … 去 para pintar uma ação repetida e sem rumo — "…indo e voltando, repetidamente." O mesmo verbo monossilábico se repete em ambos os lados.

    Estrutura: Verb + 来 + (same) Verb + 去

he他tā在zàithe exam hall考场kǎo chǎngoutside外面wài miànpaced back and forth走来走去zǒu lái zǒu qù。

Pensei e repensei, mas ainda não consegui resolver.

Lembre-se: V来V去 = "indo e voltando, de um lado para o outro" — o mesmo verbo monossilábico em ambos os lados, pintando repetição inquietante: 走来走去 (caminhando), 想来想去 (pensando), 说来说去 (falando demais), 翻来覆去 (vire e revira).

    Cuidado

    • Carrega um tom levemente fútil / inquieto — muito movimento, muitas vezes sem resultado.

    Substantivo 1 + 不比 + Substantivo 2 + Adj. — "não mais … do que"

    English

不比 is not 没有. 没有 = "not as … as" (definitely less); 不比 = "no more … than" (we might even be equal). It directly negates 比.

    Structure: Noun 1 + 不比 + Noun 2 + Adjective · A + 不比 + B + Verb + 得 + Adj

    要 + Verbo + 就 + Verbo — "se vai …, então …"

    English

要 + V + 就 + V lays down a resolute condition — "if you're going to V, then V (and do it properly / now)." The tone is almost a command, so it usually drops the subject, with single-syllable verbs.

    Structure: 要 + Verb + 就 + Verb ……

    if you're going to要yàoleave走zǒuthen就jiùleave走zǒuwe,我们wǒ mendon't不bùneed需要xū yàoyou你nǐ。

    Watch out

    • The second verb can take a short modifier: 要去就快点去, 要学就好好学.
    Português

    要 + V + 就 + V estabelece uma condição resolvida — "se vai V, então V (e faça direito / agora)." O tom é quase um comando, por isso geralmente omite o sujeito, com verbos monossílabos.

Remember: V就V = a shrug, "so be it." 坏了就坏了 ("if it's broken, it's broken — whatever"). Don't confuse it with 要V就V ("if you're going to V, then really V") — that one's resolute, this one's indifferent.

    Watch out

Ação ,好 + Propósito — "para que, a fim de"

    English

A clause-medial 好 introduces the purpose of the preceding action — "so that, so as to."

    Structure: Action ,好 + Purpose

She drinks milk before bed to help her fall asleep.

Remember: this 好 = "so that / so as to," not "good." It links an action to its purpose: 说慢点,好做笔记 ("speak slowly, so that we can take notes"). Think "do this, the better to…".

    Watch out

    • Mid-clause 好 + a verb = purpose; don't read it as the adjective "good" there.
    Português

Lembre-se: este 好 = "para que / a fim de," não "bom." Liga uma ação a seu propósito: 说慢点,好做笔记 ("fale devagar, para que possamos tomar notas"). Pense "faça isso, melhor para…".

    Cuidado

    • 好 medial na oração + verbo = propósito; não o leia como o adjetivo "bom" ali.

Remember: 一面…一面… = the formal 一边…一边… ("doing two things at once"). 面 = "side," same image as 边 — one action on each side, simultaneously.

    不是 … ,就是 … — "ou … ou …"

    English

不是 A,就是 B says it must be one of two — "(it's) either A or B." A and B can be verbs, adjectives, or nouns; it rules out any third option.

    Structure: 不是 + A ,就是 + B

The clothes I buy are either too big or too small.

Remember: 不是 A 就是 B = "it's either A or B (no third option)" — often a bit exasperated (不是…就是…, "always one or the other"). Don't confuse it with 不是 A 而是 B ("not A but rather B"), which corrects to B.

    Watch out

    • 不是…就是… narrows to two; 不是…而是… replaces a wrong A with the right B — the second word (就是 vs 而是) tells them apart.
    Português

不是 A,就是 B diz que deve ser um dos dois — "(é) ou A ou B." A e B podem ser verbos, adjetivos ou substantivos; exclui qualquer terceira opção.

    Português

Ambos significam "finalmente", mas o sentimento difere. 总算 é informal e respira alívio — as coisas finalmente deram certo de forma aceitável, muitas vezes após preocupação ou impaciência. 终于 é mais neutro e objetivo, para qualquer resultado esperado há muito tempo (bom ou mau). 总算 raramente vai antes do sujeito.

    跟 vs 对 — "com" vs "para / em direção a"

    English

With 说, both work (我跟她说 / 我对她说). But they part ways elsewhere. 跟 also means "and / with" — it joins or compares two things (跟…一样, 跟…一起). 对 marks the one-way target of an attitude or action (对…笑, 对…好), and it can't join two nouns.

I我wǒlike跟gēnyou all你们nǐ mennot不bùthe same一样yí yàngI,我wǒstill have还有hái yǒukids孩子hái zi呢ne。

    Are you coming with me?

Remember: 跟 JOINS (two-way): "and / with / same as" (跟…一样, 跟…一起); 对 AIMS (one-way): "to / towards" (对他笑, 对我好). Picture 跟 as a link between equals, 对 as an arrow at a target.

    Watch out

    • 对 can't join two nouns — "A and B" is 跟 / 和, never 对.
    Português

Com 说, ambos funcionam (我跟她说 / 我对她说). Mas divergem em outros contextos. 跟 também significa "e / com" — ele junta ou compara duas coisas (跟…一样, 跟…一起). 对 marca o alvo unidirecional de uma atitude ou ação (对…笑, 对…好), e não pode juntar dois substantivos.

All three mark direction. Before a verb in plain directional use they're interchangeable (往 / 向 / 朝前走). After a verb (开往, 飞往), 往 marks the destination and is the most common; 向 marks direction; 朝 can't go after a verb. Only 向 stretches to abstract aims (向…学习).

    Watch out

    • 朝 is the most restricted — keep it before the verb.
    Português

Os três marcam direção. Antes de um verbo em uso direcional simples são intercambiáveis (往 / 向 / 朝前走). Após um verbo (开往, 飞往), 往 marca o destino e é o mais comum; 向 marca a direção; 朝 não pode vir após um verbo. Apenas 向 se estende a objetivos abstratos (向…学习).

    对 vs 对于 — "em direção a, quanto a"

    English

Near-synonyms for "towards / regarding." 对 is flexible and can mark a person you act on (对他笑 "smile at him"). 对于 is more formal, frames only a topic or object of attitude, and can't take a direct personal target. Rule of thumb: anywhere 对于 fits, 对 fits too — not the reverse.

regarding对于duì yúthis这个zhè gequestion问题wèn tíI,我wǒhave no没有méi yǒuview看法kàn fǎ。

As for this question, I've no opinion.

Remember: 对于 fits ⟹ 对 fits — but NOT the reverse. A personal target (对他笑, "smile at him") needs 对; 对于 only frames a topic/attitude (对于这个问题). When in doubt, 对 is the safer, broader one.

    Watch out

    • Don't put a person straight after 对于 as a target — 对于他笑 ✗, 对他笑 ✓.
    Português

Quase sinônimos para "em direção a / quanto a." 对 é flexível e pode marcar uma pessoa sobre quem você age (对他笑 "sorrir para ele"). 对于 é mais formal, delimita apenas um tópico ou objeto de atitude, e não pode ter um alvo pessoal direto. Regra prática: onde 对于 cabe, 对 também cabe — não o inverso.

Quanto a esta questão, não tenho opinião.

    he他tāat对duìme我wǒsmiled笑xiào了le。

Lembre-se: para que 对于 funcione ⟹ 对 funciona — mas NÃO o inverso. Um alvo pessoal (对他笑, "sorrir para ele") precisa de 对; 对于 apenas delimita um tópico/atitude (对于这个问题). Na dúvida, 对 é o mais seguro e amplo.

    Watch out

    • You can't replace the standalone 以后 ("in future") with 之后 — 之后小心点 sounds incomplete.
    Português

Ambos significam "depois." 以后 pode ficar sozinho significando "no futuro / a partir de agora," e segue um tempo ou evento. 之后 é um pouco mais formal / literário e geralmente precisa de um ponto de referência anterior. Após um evento verbal puro, ambos funcionam.

    graduating毕业bì yèafter以后yǐ hòuI,我wǒwant想xiǎngto go去qùabroad国外guó wài。
